Presidents Message
My journey with the Organization for International Development began in January 1992. As I look back on that "maiden voyage", there are so many occasions that would shape my decision to continue on the missions for many years to come. I am especially encouraged to see the people we train, use the information to better themselves and those around them.
OID has taught me countless lessons over the course of 15 years. Most of all, I have learned to be humble and appreciative for the things that so many of us take for granted on a daily basis. We should really assess our lives and think about the people who live in poverty, political strife and war-torn areas of the world. Everyday these people are faced with the decisions and issues that we feel are simple and menial. We take for granted the fact that we have access to nutritious meals, clean water and good healthcare. We also take for granted that we live in a country that allows us freedom of speech. Not to mention, the fact that our wars are being fought in foreign countries and we are not subjected to bombings and battles on our streets.
OID has experienced many changes and organizational growth over the years. In December 2005, we acquired a mobile medical/dental unit, generously donated by Mr. Vincent HoSang of Caribbean Food Delights. This mobile unit was a long-standing dream of our Chairman and Founder, Dr. Roy Streete. As this dream has been realized, we recognize that there are still many more goals to be accomplished. The torch has been passed to me, and it is my task to keep the "OID FIRE" burning.
As President of OID, I am very optimistic that this organization is moving in the right direction, thanks to a committed group of volunteers and supporters. As members and friends let us continue "Helping Others to Help Themselves" and build a healthier world one community at a time.
Sincerely,
Gloria Stephens, R.N.
President
